S.I. Brooks,

8th September, 1948.

I am stationed at Shamshuipo, performing C.I.D. duties.

At about 14.30 hours on the 7/9/48 I was on patrol duty in Fuk Wah Street, when I saw defendant CHAU CHANG CHAU MAN KWONG ● CHAU PAK knooking on the door of No.99 Fuk Wah Street, ground floor. I observed defendant talking through the peephole of the door and heard a female say "He is not here As defendant walked away from the door I saw that he was concealing

something under his jacket.

I stopped defendant and disclosing my office demanded to search him, Defendant immediately said that he was only carrying bookSHE

I searched defendant and found a newspaper parcel under his jacket which I found contained documents which appeared to be of a Communist mature.

In reply to my questions, defendant said that he had arrived in Hong Kong on 6/9/48 and that the documents had been given to him by a friend at Tsimshatsui. He gave his address as Room205 CHSUNG FAT SHAN Boardinghouse, Connaught Road, Central.

I called D.P.C.1160, Yip Ching Tak, who was also on duty in the vioinity who accompanied me and defendant to Shamshuipo Police Station where I reported the matter to the Inspector on duty.

At about 16.00 hours 7/9/48 acting on instructions from Inspector Dowman, I escorted defendant to the Special Branch where I handed defendant

and the documents to S.I.Brooks,
